Six Day Series Final – Brisbane, 3-5 April

2020 Conference Partner - Six Day CYCLING
Share0Share0Share0

What is Six Day Cycling?

The Six Day Final to be held in Brisbane is a track cycling event that combines the world’s best track cyclists with a phenomenal party atmosphere.

Located at Anna Meares Velodrome, the event will be held over three intense and exciting nights, beginning Friday 3rd April 2020 and concluding Sunday April 5th 2020.

Enter the Velodrome and instantly walk into a thrilling environment. With the smell of delicious food and the sound of beer being poured, your mouth will begin to water. As you walk through the velodrome you will come across plenty of entertainment and activities for the kids along with chill out zones.

Watch the action from Track Centre then you have the best spot in the house. Watch as some of the best track cyclists in the world hit speeds of over 70km. Thinking something a little more relaxing? Sit down with a beer or wine and enjoy some food or get yourself comfy in our beanbag area.

Looking for a party? Dance around with the DJ pumping out tunes throughout the entire night and cheer on your favourite riders!

So why Brisbane?

Brisbane has become a destination for the spectacular outdoors, blockbuster events and mouth-watering food to enhance your Six Day experience. Abseil down the Story Bridge from dawn, make a champagne toast on a sunset river cruise, or taste the famous Moreton Bay bug. Whatever your inclination, Brisbane’s year-round blue skies are calling.

Extending your Six Day adventure comes easy in Brisbane. Start by eating your way through Brisbane’s best breakfasts before browsing the latest exhibition at the famous GOMA. Enjoy a getaway to island paradise, refine your palette with a tasting tour through the city’s craft breweries, or tackle Brisbane’s ultimate bucket list with a koala-cuddling encounter.

About the Competition:

Athletes will compete in different races and divisions in the hope to be crowned the Six Day Series winner. Races include;

Madison:

  • Riding in pairs, each team member takes turns to race, bringing his or her partner into the race with a ‘hand-sling’. Throughout a Six Day event there are differing versions of the race, including a 45 minute chase, a 500m Time Trial and the Madison Finale which often decides the entire event.

Elimination:

  • Unlike most races, the action tends to take place at the back of the pack in the elimination. Every two laps the rider at the back of the race is eliminated – all the way through until there are only two riders left, who sprint it out for  the win.

200m Time Trial:

  • The sprinters take to the track individually as they take on the clock in this crowd-pleaser. Building speed as they go, the showmen take two and a half laps to reach top speed and whip the crowd up into a frenzy before the bell is rung as they exit the last corner. That’s the cue for them to hit full speed as the clock starts and 200m later it’s all over as the next rider takes to the track and it starts again.

Keirin:

  • The sprinters line up in the home straight as a single derny pacer circles the track awaiting the starting gun to signal the start of the race. The riders then follow the pacer jostling for position behind him for five and a half laps – no rider is allowed to pass the derny bike – as he reaches 50kph. As the derny leaves the track with two and a half laps to go, it’s every man for himself as the riders go all out for the win.

Esports industry to reach $1.1B global revenue in 2019

Share0Share0Share0
SG Esports and Sports Geek founder Sean Callanan appeared on Sky News Australia's Business of Sports program to discuss esports.

Check out the video above for an in-depth look at the rapidly growing esports industry.

Which Revenue Streams Are Driving Growth?

A report from marketing research company Newzoo shows that esports revenues were just over $900 million in 2018.

The industry is projected to grow to around $1.1 billion by the end of 2019 and all the way to $1.65 billion by 2021, with the huge growth in revenue largely being driven by brand sponsorships, media rights deals and advertising sales.

Sponsorship

The largest revenue stream by a considerable margin is sponsorships, which currently make up roughly 40% of the industry's earnings.

As is the case with conventional sports, sponsorship deals are mutually beneficial for both leagues and sponsors.

With naming rights and patches on teams and tournaments around the world, big companies receive a ton of recognition and advertising from all of the millions of viewers around the world watching and supporting these teams.

Advertising

Much like sponsorship deals, companies are looking to take advantage of the massive audiences that esports draw in through advertising.

Esports has a global audience of 454 million people, allowing the industry to bring in roughly 19% of its revenue through advertising dollars.
Esports Audience
Prize Money

Due to the increasing revenue from advertising and sponsorship, prize money has increased dramatically in only a number of years for esports tournaments.

As you can see from this graph, tournaments with the most viewers, most sponsors and most advertising are able to be as successful as they are because of the high quality players involved in the tournament.

Lucrative prize money ensures the participation of the best players in any given esports game.

The prize money offered by leading esports tournaments is now surpassing some of the biggest traditional sporting events around the world.

I’ve invented a new word: SponsTech

I'VE INVENTED A NEW WORD: "SPONSTECH"

By Matthew LeopoldNon Executive Director at European Sponsorship Association

Author: Matthew Leopold, Non Executive Director at European Sponsorship Association

9th of April 2019

FinTech, PropTech, MedTech, SomethingTech - you can't escape it. Innovative technology is booming. Challenger companies are building apps and software to transform traditional industries.

Dependence on traditional models and theories have long been the Achilles' heel of sponsorship. Sure, some of the old fashioned ways of measuring sponsorship have been digitised. But regardless how technologically advanced you are at measuring logo appearances on your TV screen - you can't escape that you are still counting logo appearances on a TV screen.

New Technologies

The tech that caught my eye was the concept of "virtual replacement" sponsorship at The Davis Cup. Sounds like a complex idea, but is actually very simple.

The Davis Cup has invested in technology that can digitally superimpose, in real-time, sponsors’ logos on court-side banners. This technology enables viewers in the USA to see different sponsors from viewers in Asia or Europe. With analytics, bespoke messages could be delivered for individual users.

From global to local. Previously, global sporting events chased sponsorship from global brands. With global budgets and awareness, they tended to be most interested in these events.  However, with this technology, sponsorship can become more targeted and localised.  It puts the customer at the centre.

Sponsorship Needs Relevance

I have written a few times on the vital importance of connection between the property, sponsor and customer. This technology has the ability to make the sponsorship of an event more relevant to more people - this can only be a good thing.

However, I do not think that pitch-side advertising alone can magic-up increased engagement or consideration.  It can increase short term awareness of a brand. The real challenge will be for sponsoring brands to take advantage of this new segmentation and tell their story in a way that resonates and is relevant to the local audience.

The Birth Of An Industry

What should we call this cunning technical innovation? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. From henceforth, these technologies shall be known as "SponsTech". I'm sure you didn't see that coming.Learn how to identify and capitalise on new sponsorship tech! Join sponsorship experts at the Money In Sport Sponsorship & Partnership Summit.
